- Portugal reach the quarter-finals after beating Norway 2-1.
- Haaland requests a substitution and leaves the pitch limping.
- Hojlund’s penalty secures Denmark’s 1-0 victory over Wales.
Portugal have done rather well without Cristiano Ronaldo. Sunday’s 2-1 comeback victory over Norway secured their Nations League quarter-final place and maintained their perfect Group A4 record. The players delivering those results deserve their share of the attention.
Anyone assessing Portugal on football betting sites should give their response to falling behind proper consideration, rather than make Ronaldo’s absence the only talking point.
Ramos Makes His Case as Haaland Limps Off
Ronaldo had left the squad after his omission from the line-up, leaving Portugal to prepare without him. Goncalo Ramos made his own contribution count, scoring the decisive goal against Norway.
Kristoffer Ajer put the visitors ahead, but Joao Cancelo equalised just two minutes later. Ramos completed the comeback in the 79th minute following Joao Felix’s assist. That immediate response to conceding deserves credit, particularly when the discussion around the team has concentrated so heavily on an absent player.
Ramos deserves serious consideration for the next starting XI. A manager should judge what a striker contributes now, however accomplished the player competing with him might be.
Norway and Manchester City had a different concern after Erling Haaland requested a substitution in the 67th minute and limped off. The nature of the problem remained unclear, so predicting a lengthy absence would be premature.
Francisco Conceicao’s late second booking for a sarcastic thumbs-up was needless. Portugal should not have had to finish with ten men.
Ward’s Error Proves Costly for Wales
Danny Ward had made important saves before fouling Gustav Isaksen to concede a penalty. Rasmus Hojlund converted in the 75th minute, giving Denmark a 1-0 victory in Cardiff and leaving them six points behind Portugal.
The penalty was avoidable, but blaming Ward alone would overlook Wales’s attacking difficulties. They managed just six shots, with an expected goals total of 0.37. His earlier saves had kept the contest level; the players further forward needed to contribute more.
