What Is a Yankee Bet?

A Yankee represents 11 different accumulator bets of four selections: 6 doubles, 4 trebles, and one four-fold. This combo wager doesn’t include any singles. The full cover bet aims to maximise the chance for profit when playing four selections, and this makes it a bit more reliable for breaking even than a single four-fold acca. This is, in essence, what a Yankee bet is.

How Does a Yankee Bet Work?

Yankee bet has four selections: 6 doubles, 4 trebles, and one four-fold

To illustrate a classic Yankee, imagine we pick four simple 1X2 selections. If we place them all as a single accumulator, we risk the entire bet to fail if only a single pick fails. However, we can increase our chance of turning a profit by making a full cover wager, which can break even if only a couple of the selections come through. As the table below illustrates, it achieves this by covering all possible accumulator combinations of four selections.

Then again, placing 11 bets is eleven times more costly than placing one. Moreover, keep in mind that the betting odds of each selection should be high enough to bring profit. Our Yankee bet example below can turn positive for only two picks if the odds are close to evens (1/1 aka 2.0), but this may not be enough if they are lower. It is best to use a Yankee Bet Calculator to check how each selection affects your potential winnings.

How to Work Out a Yankee Bet?

While this bet may seem complicated at first, it is actually quite easy to place, and most bookmakers include it as an option in their bet slips. While there are no specific Yankee bet rules, it is best to remember that any four-leg football betting accumulator can be turned into a Yankee. Here is how you can place this full cover wager:

1️⃣ Pick four selectionsAnd add them to your betslip.

2️⃣ Locate the full cover bet section of the betslip. It might be named ‘Multiples’, ‘Combo Bets’, or something of the sort.

3️⃣ There should be a ‘Yankee’ section. Place a stake next to it. Notice that your stake will be multiplied eleven times for each acca in it.

4️⃣ Confirm your choice and place the wager.

Frequently Asked Questions

🔳Q: What Is the Difference between a Yankee and a Super Yankee?

💬A: They are different full cover bets. A Yankee wager consists of 4 selections and 11 acca variations of these selections. The Super Yankee goes a step further by adding a fifth selection for a total of 26 acca combinations. To dig a little deeper, the Super Yankee is also known as a Canadian. This contradiction has been the source of many smiles and some discontent. Finally, we recommend using a Super Yankee bet calculator to analyse the selections in detail.

🏆Q: Why Is the Bet Called ‘Yankee’?

💬A: According to folklore, an American soldier placed a full cover bet in the UK during WWII. Some rumours claim he was part of the famous 101st Airborne Division, and his whole unit was shot down and perished on the night before D-Day. The soldier spent that very night in sickbay with food poisoning.

Later in 1945, the soldier stepped on a faulty land mine, and the incident relocated him for recuperation near Stockton in time for the famous horse race celebrating the Japanese capitulation. The Yankee placed a full cover bet on the race and capitalised on his miraculous luck by winning all four selections.

Q: Are You Looking for an Exciting Wager to Try?

💬A: Expert punters often place full cover bets for the excellent value they provide. While analysing the best picks for a Yankee might take a little time, the potential return more than pays off the investment. Moreover, the excitement of watching the matches is much higher. To be precise, eleven times higher.
